Joey Cheng is a social psychologist at York University. Her research focuses on social hierarchies, overconfidence, competitiveness, nonverbal signals of dominance, and the neurobiology of social status. She explores these topics in naturalistic field groups (e.g., sports teams, marching bands, MBA social networks) and laboratory experiments, using diverse methodologies such as behavioral tasks, ethological observations of behavior, eye-tracking technology, hormonal assessments, and voice pitch analysis.

Joey received her Ph.D. in social-personality psychology from the University of British Columbia, and a B.A. from the University of Toronto. Before joining York University, she was a postdoctoral fellow at the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley, and a faculty at the University of California, Irvine and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
